Known for its blossoming fashion community, Philadelphia held a fashion event entitled The Philadelphia Collection 2010 last September 23 to October 2, which featured some of the best in the local fashion scene. Participants included models, retailers, boutiques, stylists, designers as well as design students from different universities that took part in over 40 runway shows and fashion-related events.

One of the highlights of the event featured world-renowned designer Nicole Miller who showcased her fall and pre-fall collections in three different events. The collections she presented were fresh off the catwalk of the New York Fashion Week.

Another event, sponsored by the World Presidents’ Organization of Philadelphia, was a dinner held at the Chestnut Club which included a speech by Nicole Miller CEO Bud Konheim. “Nicole Miller is no-nonsense. She is one of the only real designers out there,” he said about the top designer.

The event also saw a fashion show by fashion retailer Macy’s in the Center City hosted by world-famous photographer, British model and America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker.

But the real highlight of the event was the 17th annual Philadelphia Phashion Phest held in the tunnel on 12th Street between Arch and Race Streets. Sponsored by Wachovia, The City of Philadelphia and Beam Spirits & Wine Inc., the event aimed to showcase the real status of Philadelphia as one of the biggest fashion shakers of the country. According to Sharon Phillips Waxman, executive producer of the Phashion Phest, “I was sick and tired of hearing how there was no good fashion in Philadelphia. I want to showcase all of the great fashion retailers and beauty salons that the Philadelphia market has to offer. After all, it is such a chic and creative city.”

Other fashion brands who participated in the event include DKNY and Zinman Furs.
