Posted on July 29, 2010

After being out outfitted by Giorgio Armani from 2007 to 2009, the players of London’s Chelsea Football Club is now going to be wearing formal wear from Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. This after they signed a three-year contract that includes redesigning of their director’s lounge at the Stamford Bridge Stadium in West London, the home field for the team.

The Chelsea footballers will start wearing items from D&G starting next month for the opening Britain’s premier soccer league. The announcement was made during a cocktail party at Stamford Bridge last July 27, 2010.

In a statement to the press, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said, “We are really happy about this partnership and to be able to link our name to such a prestigious club like Chelsea.”

“Football players are style icons both on and off the pitch, and, on top of this, there is our love of England and of London, which has always been a source of inspiration for our work,” the fashion geniuses added.

The team’s formal outfits include a three-piece, two-button suit in dark blue wool twill, a blue poplin shirt, and a blue jacquard tie. For the design, Chelsea’s lion crest will be embroidered on the suit’s pocket. There will also be a blue wool and cashmere coat embroidered with the club’s logo. For the players’ free time, the duo has designed a blue poplin shirt worn with dark blue denim jeans and black calfskin sneakers.

But not just the players, because Chelsea coah Carlo Ancelotti will also don D&G suits specially created for him, as well as all the male and female executives of the football club. Accessories such as blue calfskin suitcases, black leather shoes, and gunmetal tie pins were also fashioned for the team.

Dolce & Gabbana will also re-design the main reception at Stamford Bridge and its millennium suites corridor.
